Should’ve read the comments before considering this place. Tried to get simple information about leasing and got connected with a man named Avery. Turns out he’s just an AI chatbot that’s gone rogue because he’ll schedule tour appointments for you only for you to show up and have no one there to meet u. This building answers no calls, they answer no emails, leasing office is always light off. Either they’re all dead or the entire building admin is run by AI.

Good luck reaching an actual leasing person. Scheduled multiple times and was never met with a person. Doors locked.

The leasing agent was impossible to get a hold of at the time of my tuesday 9am scheduled tour. The bot did not know how to resolve the problem.

The AI system messed up the availability of $1318 Suite 314 and the schedule of meeting the building manager LeLe. LeLe was nice enough to talk to me on 2/10 Tuesday morning a day after the failing tour schedule when I stopped by to inquire for a tour and found out the the studios like #314 won't be available until May or June, 2026. The only positivity was the maintenance gentleman, Bruce. He not only interacted with me with such a humanity but help me to leave a physical note on a post-it for LeLe to call me. Unfortunately, LeLe did not call nor text me after reading the post-it. Bruce made the painful experience at 2425 Valdez Street less unpleasant for sure. Nook AI system should not schedule for a tour when the unit(studio) is not available to be rented out. I am a long term tenant who is greatly impacted by the fire of 1770 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94612 and must find a place rent range $1200-1400 mainly to live in before 3/1 Sunday when my Airbnb.org stay runs out. It's shocking to find out that AI is taking over a lot of real human's work in rental leasing business. I have not needed housing since December 2001. The fire destroyed my stable life; AI doesn't help me to recover from the damage that the fire has caused me.

Don't bother coming here to view the units. You can't talk to a real person. Confirmed an appt with their chatbot for 9am Monday morning. Two of us took time off work to get their on time to view the units. Arrived 9am on the dot, lights off in the office. Called the two phone numbers listed and responded to the chat bot. No response to any of my messages. Complete waste of time, energy and time off work. Unprofessional.

I came for my tour and couldn't find anyone in the office. The number to management didn't work on the call box. I left 2 messages and they say they will call u bk but they don't and I took the time out of my schedule to follow through on my tour. Communication is terrible. It has to be better elsewhere because that's not professional.

Pros: -priced decently if you need a decently, rent will run you between 1100-1700$ -utilities flat rate(around 150$ a month) -trash valet -actual locked doors/security doors that can take a beating -won't charge for oversized trash -roof top is open access -laundry onsite(roughly 3$ for a wash and dry) -somewhat secure mailroom(anyone can walk in and grab your package once it's in the actual building) -community kitchens on each floor offer food storage and a full size oven -new management team(Destiny, Jolenda, and Chyna) will as much as they can to accommodate and have had no issues asking for assistance(contact them during their office hours or go into their office in person if you need something asap) -onsite bike storage room(currently closed and no residents have had access for over 6 months but they're working on getting it back in proper service. -building maintenence team lives onsite and will help damn near within an hour or 2 of you asking for help. Bruce is your guy and will take care of you. -10 minute walk from bart and 2 minutes from nearest bus stop CONS: -Let's get this out of the way it's Oakland and like 2 blocks from lake merrit. -There have been NUMEROUS break ins to the building itself, people will try to jump the first gate and then smash in the glass security door(has happened twice in the past year). Again the apartments themselves will have security doors too and none of them have been breached as far as any current residents know. -The laundry room has been trashed multiple times by residents and left to get moldy if people leave the washer doors closed. -there have been homeless caught inside of the building -no ac or heating in your unit. -no designated parking and get ready to compete with not only the other nook residents but every apartment building to find parking. -at least 7 catalytic converters have been stolen from cars along the streets nearby the building in the last 6 months. -multiple cars in the free all day parking spots in front of the building are abandoned and now being used as homeless encampment. -the fire alarm has been set off roughly 12 times in the past year due to residents not paying attention to the community kitchens. -if you and your neighbors are chill the walls are decent for noise but if someone has an issue the entire floor will hear the yelling. -no smoking, vaping, or anything else but every other floor smells like cigarretes or some dudes skunk weed -have had at least 2 instances of people throwing parties on the roof after midnight without any warning(one of these parties caused one of the building break ins because people propped open the doors of the building and homeless people were able to just walk in). -we HAD package lockers but the old management team from avenue 5 never paid the company so it's useless until the new team can get it back. -be prepared for your rent to shoot up if you have a concession/discount and your lease ends. Overall: it's obvious the new management were handed a bit of a shit show and are trying to make the best of it for everyone. It's a decent starting point for college students and people getting their barrings. The old management according to the older residents were amazing and when they got bought out by avenue 5 it went to hell. Most of those old residents will try to help out by keeping the kitchens and laundry/common rooms clean. Most floors are quiet 9/10 times but don't be surprised to hear a dog every now and then barking until 3am or a couple going through some shit 2 floors above you. Bruce has tried his best to make sure people can find parking, there's at least 5 full streets of 24 hr free parking nearby the building. The area will get worse and more expensive(the other buildings next to it are proof of that). More high end restaurants are opening so there's even less parking in the future. I don't plan on staying much longer but this is the definition of you get what you pay for.
