It is THE right hotel to be, in Oaxaca in my opinion. As the city has a really rich culture and identity, this place represents it in a such respectful and genuine way. By installing dry toilets first as water is an issue in town but also by honoring its beautiful art and culture with the architecture/design and events they organize on the charming rooftop. They also sell homemade products (drinks and cookies) and have a lovely authentic shop runned by a passionate man named Diego. The team also is really lovely and helpful. This place is an experience. I stayed for about a week at Niyana and had an amazing experience. The place itself is filled with positive energy and lovely people. They have done a tremendous job in creating a wonderful, sustainable place that makes you feel like home away from home. The rooftop is perfect to just relax or practice Yoga, Meditation, or whatever suits you. Furthermore, they frequently offer different events like yoga classes, singing circles, etc. I had the honour of visiting a yoga sutra class with Andre. It was scheduled for 90 minutes but we ended up stretching it to several hours. A beautiful experience with a great teacher. I can highly recommend to give it a try. Thanks to the Niyana family for a wonderful stay 🫶🙏

I had the best experience at Niyana, from the friendly and easy communication to the beautiful room to the sanctuary of a space, I'm so glad I made the choice to stay here for my first time in Oaxaca City. The concierge texted me on WhatsApp the day before my arrival to make sure they knew when I was arriving and someone would be there to check me in. The Mazunte room was tucked away in a quiet little corner of the hotel and was beautifully designed. I often went out in the mornings to walk the city (location is just 4-5 blocks from the main pedestrian areas) and then came back to the relaxing courtyard space in the hottest part of the day to relax, enjoying the peacefulness. Everyone at reception was helpful with any questions I had, calling a taxi, etc. I've lived on homesteads with dry toilets before so that was not new for me—if it would be for you, give it a try! It saves so much water and they were great about changing it after a couple of days. Water pressure for shower was strong and water was nice and hot. Regarding noise, I often heard ambient noise in my room which is to be expected but it was very quiet compared to walking the streets. There was a strong fan in the room that I turned on at night and it completely drowned out any sounds. I am a light sleeper and sound sensitive and the quiet at Niyana is a main draw for staying there again.

Niyana is a beautiful hotel with a wonderful atmosphere and a strong focus on sustainability. We really appreciated their commitment to waste separation and eco-friendly practices. The communal areas are thoughtfully designed and create a relaxing space for guests. What truly stood out was the incredible care and support from the staff when our six-month-old son developed a fever. Even on a Sunday, they went out of their way to arrange a doctor’s appointment for us. We have rarely experienced such warmth and attentiveness in a hotel—truly exceptional hospitality!

If I could give 10 stars I would: This is THE perfect spot to stay in Oaxaca: it is slightly removed from the business of downtown Oaxaca allowing it to offer a chill private relaxed space. This allowed us to feel comfortable hanging out in their Nido (nest) area with our computers to do some work, or go upstairs and do some yoga in the mornings. But it’s close enough to the center to be in walking distance from everything. The staff is absolutely amazing. So so helpful. So sweet & friendly & able to recommend the best places to go. Their open kitchen has such a cute cafe vibe and made me want to hang out every morning. This is where they have amazing local products for sale too! They were all fabulous (from probiotic drinks - delicious and needed in Mexico! - to local and natural lotions, corn cookies, soaps and more!) I love that the whole place is built based on their eco values - from dry toilets to the way the floor is made to absorb water to the walls made of sustainable materials and all of their baskets to support recycling! Brilliant and this is what hooked me But honestly the best part is the decor. This whole place is stunning! Every room represents a different part of Oaxaca and so is designed with the fabrics, wood, artesanal products & vibe of each area! They are gorgeous! The Nest area with its little pool of fishes and petate ceiling is gorgeous. All of the beautiful plants everything just everything is picturesque and selfie worthy! Probably my favorite hotel I’ve ever stayed at I highly recommend!

Theres no service unless you personally ask for cleaning due to their concept of being eco friendly. Your allowed to use thier common amenities however, I was charged for an item that I was not informed of not being able to use and charged over price without being informed or warn about. Would not come back again or recommend.

I enjoyed my stay at Niyana. They have made a really lovely space set back from the busy streets. The care and attention to their environmental impact was amazing. I liked that the property had a roof terrace so you could sit in the sun and read / bathe. It felt very safe and secure and was a good location to be able to walk to lots of great places. One of the best parts of the stay was the helpfulness of the staff they were super responsive to messages on whatsapp and helped us book a private tour - very much appreciated. I think a couple of purchasable kitchen items would have been nice e.g tea, coffee, refreshments, snacks. It would have been nice if there was a mini bar fridge or something where you could buy drinks. Our room and bed was a little small for 2 people and 2 massive suitcases but we managed ok. A nice touch would be a few sunloungers for the terrace.
